The Kikuyu Through the Ages
Origins
The Kikuyu are thought to derive from the eastern Bantu speaking tribes. The tribes were thought to seek out Mt.Kenya as a place of home to be closer to Ngai. Religiously it is thought to derive from Ngai under a sycamore tree. Up until the arrival of Britain in 1888 the Kikuyu were a prosperous place that was doing well for themselves(Kikuyu People 2014). One problem that they faced was the slave trade, but since the Kikuyu were pretty powerful any slave trader was killed upon their entry to Kikuyu land. Otherwise the Kikuyu acted quite peaceful and continued to build on their cultural group (Pateman, Robert: 37).

Colonialism in Kenya
Colonialism in Kenya was always something the Kikuyu were against it. Britain abused their land and forced most of the Kikuyu out of the highlands since it was suitable for their settlement. Kikuyu groups were always organizing to try and get rid of the English. One man named Mugikuyu Mundu helped to put an end to colonialism, but not before a radical Kikuyu group led a fight against the British troops stationed in Kenya. As a result, many Kikuyu members were executed. After A while Mundu hellped the British to see that Kenya should become independent after peaceful protests in the streets(Kikuyu People 2014).

Post-Colonialism (Present)
Finally when colonialism was done the first democratically elected president was Mugikuyu Mundu, and many more Kikuyu were to take place in the government since they were the most powerful group in Kenya. Today colonialism has left Kenya struggling slightly with debt, but their capital Nairobi has become a blossoming tourist destination (Kabira, Wanjiku: 13).
